Week-long celebration encouraging kids to adopt healthy habits
Numerous studies have shown that healthier students tend to do better in school as they have higher attendance and are able to concentrate better. Studies show that healthy kids get better grades, attend school more often and behave better in class. Hence, making time for physical activity and nutrition in school is not a break from academics; it’s an investment in higher academic performance.
With an objective to educate children about physical, mental, emotional and social health Sesame Street Preschool will be celebrating Health Week from 7th to 12th December. During the week-long celebrations, children will revisit their lessons on health and hygiene as they learn the importance of healthy habits, establishing and following routines, healthy eating and physical well-being. Each day of the week is dedicated to a specific healthy habit like Day 1 will focus on handwashing routines and children will be encouraged to practice correct way of handwashing. Day 2 is dedicated to oral health and kids will be taught right ways of brushing teeth, sorting food for strong teeth. A dental examination by a Paediatric Dentist is also scheduled for the kids. On day 3 kids will learn about healthy eating. Children will enjoy the extended snack time at the Health Café, munching on healthy meals. Day 4 will emphasise on fitness and will begin with exercise sessions conducted during the extended assembly time. Kids will dance and exercise on rhymes like ‘Jump like a monkey’, ‘Row row row your boat’ and many more. Day 5 will reiterate the learnings of the Health Week when kids will be encouraged to share the healthy habits they learnt during the week. Day 6 will culminate the Health Week with an early morning yoga session planned for all kids and their parents.
Ms Mona Singh, Vice President, Sesame Schoolhouse, shares, “The health of our children is fundamental to the future progress of our country and hence health and well-being are an important feature of our curriculum at Sesame Street Preschool. Going by our group’s mission – to help kids grow smarter, stronger and kinder we are dedicated to encouraging healthy habits among children through various awareness activities organised by the educators. Thus, an entire week is celebrated every year with an aim to steer young minds towards adopting a lifestyle with healthy habits.”
