Sesame Street, America’s largest preschool educator, has expanded its footprint to Pune and opened up their first Sesame Street Preschool in Ghaziabad. Sesame Street Preschools are early childhood education centres that were set up by Sesame Workshop in India in the year 2012. The preschools offer innovative programmes for children aged 1-6 years to engage and learn.
The city of Ghaziabad is becoming the industrial mega hub of North India. It is the largest industrial city in Uttar Pradesh, and as such is the primary commercial and industrial center of western Uttar Pradesh. In fact, a City Mayors Foundation survey described it as the second-fastest growing city in the world. Due to the multitude of job opportunities, rapid growth in infrastructure and its proximity to New Delhi, there has been an influx of many young families into the city over the last few years. Naturally, there is now a huge demand for pre-schools offering early childhood care and education with a view to provide world-class education to young children. Through the opening of Sesame Street preschool, the aim is to meet these needs and help build their foundation for a successful future.
Sesame Workshop is the non-profit educational organization behind Sesame Street, the landmark television program that reaches millions of children every day in more than 150 countries. The Workshop’s mission is to use the educational power of media to help children everywhere reach their highest potential. Sesame Workshop in India also produces the educational television program Galli Galli Sim Sim.
Realising the need for quality preschool education, Sesame Street Preschool offers research based content that supports early childhood learning, helps children prepare for school and addresses the development needs of children. The preschool endeavours to change the paradigm in the preschool space making high quality education, teaching standards and learning spaces accessible to Indian children. The curriculum and methodology integrates hands-on project based learning, with creative approaches to foster imagination, creativity, communication and collaboration.
Says Sashwati Banerjee, Director, Sesame Street Preschool, “Sesame Street was built around a single, breakthrough insight; that if you can hold the attention of children, you can educate them. We are ushering in a new generation of global citizens with the confidence, skills and cultural awareness that they will need to thrive to become global citizens. This means nurturing children with lessons about growing happy and healthy, as well as academics. Our curriculum is based on over 40 years of insight into how children learn best and spans across six key areas of early childhood development—cognition, language, social, emotional, physical and cultural diversity. We are also in line with India’s National Curriculum Framework.”trailer film The Fate of the Furious 2017
